By the Lord of Pleasure (or Emperor)! A fellow inhabitant of the grimdark future! I had not expected to find this here, Kotaku yes, but not here! This pleases me!

It pleases Slaanesh.

Well, most things do.

And here I was, thinking I was Oppo's resident 40k nerd!

You may have been residing here longer, but you're talking to a man pushing 4,000 points of painted Dark Angels (and 1000's more unpainted :P).

I'm currently building/painting up a small Iron Hands successor force, and the fluff I've come up for them involves their home planet being a deathworld with oceans of burning hydrocarbons and unpredictable tidal forces causing oceans of firey death to be constantly shifting across the surface, requiring their Fortress-Monastery to be made up of a convoy of giant wheeled temples and buildings, which I'm calling the Black Caravan, because grimdark.

40K JUST GOT MORE OPPO, Y'ALL!

That actually sounds pretty damn awesome, if not a little tricky for life to survive on such a planet, but perfect for hiding a Fortress Monastery/tank.

The resident vanilla player here has custom chapter based on Iron Hands as well, but his is a chapter that takes its recruits from Cadia. The rationale being that they already breed soldiers that obviously the next likely step is to take the elite Whiteshields and induct them into a Space Marine chapter. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

And since we're on Oppo, I'll have to post the only thing I can think of that meshes cars with 40K, the long lost Games Workshop Battlewagon.

Or what about the real life Rhino from a DoW II promotion?

Granted it was probably stolen...

Oh yeah! Derp.

I think they repainted it in Ultramarines colours and it now resides outside the U.K. headquarters. Either that or they built a brand new one.

I've seen it, it's freaking awesome.

And just like 40k it's not true scale. No way 10 marines fit in that.

I figure that since 40k is all about taking the grim/dark/absurd and cranking it up to 11, the whole concept of a planet where anything can be burned down at any moment (because of oceans of gasoline that move as fast as a car can drive) fits right in. I mean, this is a universe where there's a bell that rings every time a soul is lost forever to the horrors of the warp, and that bell has not stopped ringing for ten thousand years.

The whole Black Caravan/constant threat of burning thing also is a great tie-in to the 6th ed Iron Hands chapter tactics, since A: they'll likely have lost limbs due to not quite outrunning the fire and B: the bonuses to vehicle survivability fits in to how they have to keep the Caravan moving or else lose their sacred buildings and relics.

I also figure having cool fluff will make the people I play against hate my 500 point list less, since it's a bit of a beast. A captain in terminator armor with a storm shield and Primarch's Wrath (I feel so very sorry about pretty much any form of infantry having to go up against this guy (5 strength 4, AP 4 shred shots from a master-crafted bolter coming from a model with BS of 5 and a 3+ invul save, a 6+ feel no pain, 3 wounds and It Will Not Die, but I have no regrets because awesome is awesome. Also, his name is Otto Crematus, which is rad), a tac squad with missile launcher, flamer and sergeant with combi-flamer and melta bombs and a tac squad with missile launcher, combi-plasma and plasma gun. It's not beardy if it's also fluffy! At least I'm not fielding yet another White Scars bike list, like everybody and their powergaming moms, or Emperor forbid, Cron Air. They are the Fire Breathers, the Sons of Inferna, wardens of the Black Caravan, marching forth with the battle cry "with the wrath of the Emperor, we burn!"

It'll also be rad as hell to get a bunch of cheap larger-scale tank models and replace the top half with stuff from those great modular terrain kits GW sells and build my own Black Caravan.

And the greatest and most Oppo 40k vehicle ever created was the life-sized Blood Ravens Rhino that THQ/Relic made to promote Dawn of War II:

Old Peugeots and Rovers don't stand a chance! Last I checked, it's currently repainted in Ultramarines colors and is parked in front of Warhammer World.
